Accommodation in Strokestown | ||||||||||||
Strokestown consists mainly of one very broad avenue, which leads directly to the gates of Strokestown Park House. The house was laid out and designed for the Mahon family by Richard Castle. Located in the stable yards, the Famine Museum provides a sharp contrast to the house and pleasure garden through its exploration of the Great Irish Famine of the 1840’s, which is regarded as the single greatest catastrophe in 19th century Europe.
