Dromahair is a small village in County Leitrim. The name translates to “Ridge of the two demons”. It is situated in quiet surroundings on the banks of the Bonet River at its entry point to Lough Gill. It has an interesting past; it is the site of a castle which belonged to the O’Rourke’s of Brefini. The ruins of Creevlea Abbey are situated just behind the village. It was built in 1508 at the instigation of Margaret O’Rourke and was the last friary to be built before the suppression. Mass is still said regularly in the ruins.
