The village is dominated by its golden sandy beach on Tralee Bay, at the seaward end of Glen Fas. A stone promontory fort on the mountain slopes at the height of 625m and is the highest fortification on the western fringe of Europe. Apart from the archaeological interest the fort is well worth a visit for the magnificent, extensive view of the Dingle peninsula. In the Irish legends the fort is known as Caherconree. Camp is a walker’s paradise, where one can intermingle high and low walks in exquisite surroundings. Archaeological and historical sites, local history and mythological tales abound in the Corca Dhuibhne folklore.
