Traditionally farming based, the area has seen economic growth in other areas, matched by the construction of new houses and buildings. This gateway to West Cork offers visitors a full range of facilities including restaurants and pubs with free Irish entertainment. There are two primary schools in Ballinhassig (Ballyheada and Goggins Hill), several public houses, a number of shops, two churches and a co-op. The Marion Hall has recently been renovated. A steam rally club is situated in Halfway, 1 mile from Ballinhassig village.
