Mountnugent is a peaceful village pleasantly situated on the River Inny and the shores of Lough Sheelin, one of the most famous wild brown trout fisheries in Europe. Mountnugent has many reminders of Ireland's past. One mile from the village at Dungimmin, and dating from the 4th or 5th Century, is one of the few Ogham stones in County Cavan. Carraig Craft Visitor Centre is a local basketry museum with an exhibition of traditional baskets in rod, rush, and straw.
